Regarding what has more pulling power... what about swallows carrying a coconut across the pond? Are we talking African Swallow or European Swallow?

In my opinion, which isn't worth a whole lot, you need to consider much more than sheer pulling powering. You also need to factor in traction. An elephant has only four, albeit large feet. The four horses contribute 16 hooves which on certain surfaces (none paved) would get more traction. But the 100 dogs are sporting 400 paws complete with claws so certain terrain may give them an advantage.

I have a writing question for you. I notice Corner Gas had seven main characters, as do many other successful tv comedies such as Gilligan's Island. Is that part of a situation comedy formula that you write to? I have always wondered about that. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment you continue to give me.

Don't write off the 100 dogs just yet. The canine weight pull record is held by a Mastiff type dog at 16917 pounds. And since you mentioned the breed, the record weight pull for a Chihuahua is 260 pounds. So, instead of 100 dogs, maybe a few strong Mastiffs (and a couple of Chihuahuas thrown in for good measure) might give the Horses and Elephant a run for their money.

A few things.

1) Happy belated Birthday

2) I looked it up an adult male African elephant weighs between 10,000 and 15,000 lbs. so a really big one can weigh as much as that ladies horse.

3) Your gasket story reminded me of when I was a kid. My dad was very mechanically inclined and I saw him cut a gasket once. You actually use the round end of a ball peon hammer to do it. You place the gasket paper, sheet, cornflake box, whatever it is, on the machine part that requires the gasket, and then tap all of the edges with the round head of the hammer, to cut the gasket along the edge of the machine part.

This week's NETV was on the mark! As for your reader's question, I did a quick ChatGPT inquiry, and this is what it said if you're referring to 'pulling power.' A little caution though. As with anything AI, trust but verify.

"One elephant — strongest by a wide margin; a working elephant can pull several tons.

Four horses — potentially a few tons together, depending on breed, footing, and harness.

One hundred dogs — surprisingly powerful collectively, but coordination and harnessing become major limitations.

So, one elephant would probably pull the most, followed by four horses, then 100 dogs.

If you mean in a real tug-of-war, the answer gets more interesting because traction, coordination, and how the animals are harnessed matter enormously."

Admiring the tan, and you look fit, and in great shape.

Incidentally, I tried your fitness exercise of "walking very slowly upstairs". You must not have the near-vertical, narrow steps I have in my tiny old house. Like walking up a stepladder.

Of course, I'm sixteen years older than you, but I just have to grab a stair rail occasionally, unless I feel particularly adventurous.

Thanks for the etymology snippet - glad it wasn't entomology, which is what I first heard.

[Incidentally, the 'share' button didn't work when I tried it today. Will try again.]

Happy 60th Brent! You are looking great! A decade younger than you are.

I also , by coincidence, saw the Lloyd Robertson episode a week ago, and was describing it to my husband, the day after Lloyd passed. That one was very funny. Especially when he asked could he at least have some chips and you said it’s my last bag. I loved those celeb cameos.

I’m in Ottawa and we’re supposed to be getting your wildfire smoke today. That’s how far it’s drifting. It’s already slightly hazy outside.

I think definitely seems more fires now than a decade ago. I don’t remember all these smokey days.

My husband was a fire watcher in BC, 40+ years ago, there were always small brush fires. It’s natural for old brush to catch fire, cleanses underbrush and enriches the soil.

It’s nothing new, but maybe the vast areas it spreads over now, is newer.

Not sure about the “ horsepower versus elephant or dog power issue..never was a math person…maybe someone should put it to the test.

Happy birthday, Brent!

We can assume that four horses have a pulling power of about four horsepower.

One hundred Alaskan malamutes have a pulling power of twenty-eight horsepower.

A fully-grown African elephant bull has a pulling power of about 80-100 horsepower.

It's no contest.

I looked it up and did a little math and you are right about the draft horses. They beat out the elephant by far. Brilliant! Congratulations, I was skeptical.

Happy birthday! Sorry to hear about Lloyd Robertson, just rewatched that episode a couple of days ago. I'm gonna guess a huge angry bull African elephant.I reattached a towel hanger to the wall last night but that's about all the building I can do.

Nice comments about Lloyd Robertson. I remember him from watching CTV at my grandparents house in central BC. The Giant TV is one of my favorites from CG. Hope you had a great birthday... welcome to the sensational 60s!

Wow, you built an engine in grade 8!? In "industrial arts" we had metal (dust pan), electricity (buzzer), wood (salt and pepper shakers) and drafting (drawings??). Nothing like building an engine, but I loved it.

I'm with you on the draught horses. While I have little doubt that an elephant could drag that woman's horse, I'm confident, having watched many are horse pulling co petition, that 4 large equine could accomplish the task with less effort. On the other hand, if that woman's horse needed a vet and you could load it on a wagon or sled, 100 malamutes could get it there quickest.

Thanks for another great show. Not really a question, well, it is but not for that segment, could you show us the wonderful voice effects box that Nancy let's you use?

What was the Corner Gas budget for chili chees dogs and fries? I loved the show and still watch it when I need a giggle.
